How to unclog a drain?

There are few more annoying home repairs that demand your immediate attention like clogged drains. Regardless of what you're doing, you generally have to stop everything to fix it, else you inadvertently flood your floor, or you lose the use of your sink, tub, or toilet. Here's how to keep the water flowing.

Unclogging a drain isn't always a simple matter. You can try:

Boiling Water
It can help with melting away some of the grease in your pipes to ease the flow of water. But if your pipes are made of PVC, this method will melt your pipes and turn it into a ticking time bomb. You just might be one pipe burst away from chaos.

Vinegar and baking soda
You can do this to dissolve grease and oils for a while. Basic chemistry and a bit of acid-base reaction can flush your problems away right?? I’m afraid not. This method will surely dissolve some fats for sure, but it is kind of like pruning trees. You cut away at some branches and it grows to become more lush. Vinegar and baking soda will cut away at some fats but those that cannot be dissolved will keep on accumulating.

Plunge it
Work those muscles, and take a plunger to the drain hole. Force some air through the pipes to get the water flowing again. This is really great for physical blockages and full grease blockages.

Drain snake
Get yourself a drain snake to catch hair balls that are clogging your pipes. The drain snake is great for physical blockages and for doing some occasional pipe cleaning.
